New Footbridge at Cwm Cywarch

15 June 2016

Several of southern Snowdonia’s Area Wardens, along with one of our footpath teams, have been busy replacing a footbridge in Cwm Cywarch in the parish of Dinas Mawddwy.

The old footbridge, on a popular footpath to the summit of Aran Fawddwy (south Snowdonia’s highest peak), had fallen into disrepair, therefore with the approval of Cyngor Gwynedd we ordered a new 7m wooden footbridge. Since there was no other way to get them up there, the various structural pieces of the bridge were flown up from the Fawnog Fawr on the valley floor to Cwm y Graig with a helicopter. After removing the old bridge and constructing foundations for the new bridge, we had a nice spell of fine weather to bring all the pieces of the bridge together and finish it off with a little necessary ‘landscaping’ around the bridge.

The new bridge should last for many years, and hopefully we will be able to make further improvements on the mountain paths in the near future.
