Biodiversity in Snowdonia

Snowdonia is synonymous with extensive areas of windswept uplands and jagged peaks. Apart from the beauty and charm of its high mountains, Snowdonia has inspiring natural and semi-natural habitats. These dramatic landscapes are the product of both natural forces and human activities and are recognised nationally and internationally by numerous designations ranging from Local Conservation Areas to a World Biosphere Site.

Located on the western edge of Europe, Snowdonia is swept by warm, wet weather that supports thousands of species and their habitats. Many of these are of international importance and some are found nowhere else in the world. This is our natural heritage - our Biodiversity.
